  • UNIT 4: Cardiac Emergencies

      This learning unit will outline the common causes of cardiac related emergencies. Angina, heart attacks and cardiac arrest will be covered at length. You will be taught on how to recognize the signs, symptoms, precautions and the aims of of cardiac related emergencies including its cardinal event of cardiac arrest. Performing CPR for adults, children and infants along with the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) across this age group will also be demonstrated in this learning unit.


      By the end of this unit, you should be able to:

      • Recognize the signs and symptoms of angina and heart attacks
      • Identify the aims and the precautions which have to be taken during treatment
      • List the steps of First Aid for victims suffering from angina and heart attacks
      • Recognize the signs of victims in cardiac arrest
      • Demonstrate the steps of adult CPR and using an AED in this age group
      • Demonstrate the steps of child and infant CPR and using an AED in this age group
